Community-led initiative seeks portrait artists of all abilities to celebrate real people and stories from across Huddersfield

A new community art project is set to bring the faces and stories of Huddersfield to life, as Huddersfield Rising announces a town centre collaboration with Globe Arts Studio.

The initiative, aimed at celebrating the character and diversity of the town, is calling on portrait artists of all abilities to take part in what promises to become a striking public artwork.

A celebration of real people and local identity

At the heart of the project is a simple idea: to showcase “real faces, real stories, and the character of our community.”

Organisers are keen to ensure the artwork reflects the breadth of Huddersfield’s people and welcome submissions from artists regardless of experience or style.

Importantly, participants do not need to have experience in large-scale or mural work.

“You don’t need to be a mural artist,” organisers emphasise. “If you enjoy creating portraits — whatever your style or experience — we’d love to hear from you.”

Supporting artists at every stage

Those selected to contribute will receive fair payment for their time, with all materials provided.

Their work will also be displayed as part of a public installation in Huddersfield town centre, offering a platform for both emerging and established creatives.

The project aims to remove common barriers to participation, making it accessible to anyone with a passion for portraiture and a connection to the town.

Artists interested in joining the project are invited to submit a portrait of either:

• Someone meaningful to them from Huddersfield

“We’re really keen to hear from a wide mix of people — whether you’re just starting out or have been creating for years,” they say.
