Music, culture and community spirit filled the Lawrence Batley Theatre as Kirklees came together to support people affected by Hurricane Melissa.

Kirklees came together in a powerful show of music, culture and solidarity as the Hurricane Melissa Fundraiser brought a packed programme of live entertainment to Huddersfield’s Lawrence Batley Theatre.

Held in the theatre’s Main House on Thursday 30 July 2026, the fundraising event united musicians, performers, artists, community organisations and audiences for an evening with a serious purpose — raising vital funds to support communities affected by the devastating impact of Hurricane Melissa.

The event featured an impressive line-up of reggae, gospel, spoken word and live performance, including the Huddersfield Gospel Community Choir, Ras Sista Highness, Monique, Dee Bo General and Shanté, with Positive Vybz taking to the stage as headline act.

Adding to the atmosphere was Lexus Audio Movements UK Soundsystem, while Gravys provided authentic Caribbean food and nationally renowned MC Foxy kept the evening moving throughout.

More than simply an evening of entertainment, the fundraiser demonstrated the strength of community when people come together behind a cause that reaches far beyond Kirklees.

Through music, food, performance and shared solidarity, audiences were given an opportunity to enjoy local and national talent while helping raise support for those whose lives have been impacted by Hurricane Melissa.
