The Huddersfield Literature Festival just concluded its biggest and best lineup yet – with 70 events spanning over 17 days, 2024 saw the HLF reach new heights.
The festival brought authors and poets from across Britain together to celebrate and share the art of language. Among the speakers were Sairish Hussain, Gavin Esler, Helen Lederer, Yvonne Battle-Felton, Professor Audrey Osler, Monique Roffey, Ash Bhardwaj, and Huddersfield’s own Simon Armitage. Many of these speakers were part of hybrid events; in-person events were also being streamed online so people who couldn’t make it on the day could still listen to their favourite authors and ask them questions about their upcoming works.
Alongside authors’ talks were creative workshops, industry events, live music, performance poetry, and various children’s events, to ensure everybody could get involved with literature. There was even a dragon!
Conscious Youth CIC created a song for this year’s event, which was themed around nature, and performed it live at the HLF Wrap Party to great applause.
Lockwood-based Dapur Malaysia provided delicious food for the events in the festival tipi outside the Lawrence Batley Theatre.
We’ve put together a gallery of some of the events from this year’s Huddersfield Literature Festival, take a look at what went on and make sure you catch it next year!
