Established in 2006, the Huddersfield Literature Festival (HLF) takes place annually in March in venues across the town.

The Festival welcomes around 150 performers and audiences of 4,000+ each year. HFL hosts approximately 50 events every year, in around 20 venues across Huddersfield. The Festival operates as a not-for-profit limited company, supported by grants, ticket sales, and sponsorship.

HLF aims to celebrate the written word by bringing big-name authors to Huddersfield and supporting local talent, to promote Huddersfield as a cultural centre to rival others, not only in West Yorkshire but UK-wide.

Inclusivity and accessibility are at the heart of HLF, with several events either being free or low cost and HLF actively reaches out to and welcomes approaches from local communities and organisations. The Festival fully supports the Black Lives Matter movement. They also support calls by the Black Writers’ Guild to address deep-seated inequalities in the publishing and wider book world, as reported in The Guardian in June 2020.

Huddersfield Literature Festival is looking for volunteers to join the team for the next festival which is running from Thursday 18th – Sunday 28th April 2024. With further dates later in the year to be confirmed.

HFL volunteers help with a wide variety of  activities including:

• Helping to plan Festival events.
• Setting up event venues.
• Checking audience tickets.
• Assisting authors at book signings.
• Handing out evaluation forms and information.
• Helping with children’s/family events.

All volunteers will receive full training.

HFL is welcoming applications from all backgrounds, in particular those from traditionally under-represented groups.

Applicants must be 18 years old and above.
