Huddersfield MP Harpreet Uppal is launching an exciting Summer School Programme for 18–24-year-olds, giving young people a unique opportunity to gain first-hand experience in political and community work.

The programme will run from 14th–18th July 2024 and includes a free visit to Parliament.

Speaking about the initiative, Harpreet Uppal MP said: “I regularly receive requests from young people looking for experience in an MP’s office, but unfortunately, I cannot accommodate them all.

“That’s why I am launching my first annual Summer School—to give as many young people as possible from Huddersfield the chance to see politics in action and understand the work my team and I do to represent our community.”

The Summer School will help participants develop key skills for future involvement in politics and community-based work.

The selected group will take part in sessions led by experts in community development, campaigning, communications, and politics, providing valuable insights into how political and public engagement operates.

A highlight of the programme will be a trip to Parliament on Tuesday 15th July, where participants will have a guided tour and the opportunity to meet politicians, journalists, officials and advisors.

The programme is open to young people aged 18-24, and applicants must be available for the full duration of the scheme, from Monday 14th July to Friday 18th July.
