Town centre to host free winter attractions, live performances and a spectacular fire-lit finale
Huddersfield is preparing to welcome visitors for a full day of festive celebration, filled with creativity, music and immersive experiences, all completely free of charge.
The event is being delivered in partnership with Huddersfield BID, with additional sponsorship from the forthcoming Our Cultural Heart project.
Winter Worlds to Transform the Creative Piazza
From 11 am to 4.30 pm, the Creative Piazza will become a hub of seasonal fun as it hosts Winter Worlds. Families can enjoy a ride-on steam train, skating, face-painting and hands-on creative workshops.
Local makers will be at the heart of the activity. West Yorkshire Print Workshop will lead print-making sessions, Thread Republic will run a textiles workshop, and MakerWorld will invite children to decorate their very own elf.
Live Shows and Walkabout Entertainment
The day will feature an array of performances from local talent.
Children’s theatre company Tell Tale Hearts will stage a winter-themed version of their popular Trunk Tales, while The Daves bring Christmas cheer with festive puppetry.
Walkabout entertainers, including Poppy Poppins from Poppins Presents, and upbeat music from Banda Na Rua will keep the atmosphere lively throughout the town centre.
Festive Shopping at Huddersfield’s Christmas Market
From midday until 8 pm, St Peter’s Gardens on Byram Street will host Huddersfield’s traditional Christmas market.
Visitors can browse a range of stalls showcasing local traders, enjoy seasonal food and warm up in a tipi-style beer tent.
A ‘Merry & Bright Moment’ to Light Up the Town
As evening sets in, New Street will be the gathering point for the Merry & Bright Moment.
At 5.30 pm, Huddersfield BID will lead a unified illumination of handheld festive lights as the crowd forms a glowing Christmas chain through the town centre.
Visitors are encouraged to bring their own lights, and those wishing to add a creative touch can join lantern-making workshops from CollaborARTi ahead of the event.
Fire Garden Finale in St Peter’s Gardens
Immediately after the lighting moment, St Peter’s Gardens will come alive with stunning festive fire installations.
The display will include flaming beacons, a mechanical fire sculpture and glowing fire trees, creating a magical backdrop for carol singing and evening festivities.
The fire garden will symbolise the ongoing regeneration of Huddersfield and provide a memorable close to a day celebrating community, creativity and festive spirit.
