New wave of donations focuses on rebuilding and recovery, while youth-led Shoebox Appeal brings comfort to children
As communities across the UK continue to rally for Jamaica following the devastation of Hurricane Melissa, the Jamaica National Council Huddersfield (JNCH) has launched the next phase of their Jamaica Relief Appeal this week.
The next phase, dubbed ‘Phase 1B’ of donations, focuses on essential rebuilding and recovery items, as well as continued collection of food and hygiene supplies.
Essential Items for Phase 1B
Phase 1B calls for a range of practical goods urgently needed by families still struggling without power, shelter or supplies in Jamaica and across the wider Caribbean.

Food items listed under Phase 1A are still being accepted.
All donated goods must be dropped off by Thursday 13 November, ahead of the next scheduled shipment pickup to Jamaica.

Organisers have thanked the Huddersfield community for its “overwhelming generosity” during Phase 1 of the appeal and are urging continued support as Jamaica begins the long process of rebuilding homes and infrastructure.
“The compassion shown by the people of Huddersfield continues to inspire us,” a spokesperson for the JNCH said.
“Every contribution, no matter how small, is helping to restore lives, homes, and hope in Jamaica.”
Bringing Smiles Back: Conscious Youth’s Shoebox Appeal
Running alongside the main relief appeal, Conscious Youth CIC has launched a Shoebox Appeal to bring comfort and joy to children affected by Hurricane Melissa.
Each shoebox, filled with small gifts, stationery, and treats, is being sent directly to children in Jamaica who have lost homes, schools, and treasured belongings.
The initiative, led in partnership with the JNCH, invites residents to pack a box or donate online via https://gofund.me/d8de4b9d3
On the GoFundMe page, Conscious Youth said: “When Hurricane Melissa swept through Jamaica, it tore through homes, schools, and communities, leaving families with nothing but heartbreak
“For many children, the storm didn’t just destroy belongings; it stole moments of laughter, comfort, and safety. We believe every child deserves to feel seen, supported, and loved, no matter the circumstances.
“With love from you, each shoebox is delivered to children in Jamaica, bringing joy, comfort, and excitement after the devastation of Hurricane Melissa,” the campaign says.
“Each box is filled with love, hope, and a reminder that they’re not forgotten.”

Community Spirit Continues to Shine
As Huddersfield’s relief efforts enter their second phase, organisers are calling for one final push before the next shipment leaves later this week.
The combined work of the Jamaica National Council Huddersfield, Conscious Youth, local churches, and volunteers demonstrates the town’s enduring connection to the Caribbean, one built on history, compassion, and unity.
“Together, we can bring joy, comfort, and connection back to Jamaica’s children,” organisers said.
