Honley High School student continues rise with national team selection and international competitions

A talented young basketball player from Huddersfield has been selected to represent England for the second consecutive year, marking another significant milestone in what is becoming an impressive sporting journey.

Fifteen-year-old Harvey Walker, a student at Honley High School, has once again earned a place in the England national basketball squad, following a standout year of development at the highest level of junior basketball in the country.

Harvey first represented England last year as part of the Under-14 national team, travelling to Greece with the squad before competing in the Home Nations Tournament in Scotland. During the competition, England faced Ireland, Wales and Scotland, giving the young athlete valuable experience on the international stage.

Competing at the Highest Level

Over the past season, Harvey has continued to develop his game while playing for Manchester Magic in the Premier Division – the highest standard of junior basketball in England.

His continued progress has been recognised with a number of prestigious opportunities during 2026.

Among his latest achievements are:

• Selection to represent the North in the Aspire All-Star 3×3 competition.
• Selection for the England national basketball team for a second consecutive year.
• A place in the Junior NBA tournament in Rome, where he will compete from 11 July.
• Potential selection for further international competition in Portugal later this year.

Flying the Flag for Huddersfield

Harvey’s success is not only a personal achievement but also a proud moment for Huddersfield’s sporting community.

He is believed to be the only player from Huddersfield in his age group currently representing England at junior level and is thought to be only the third junior basketball player from the town to have earned selection for an England squad.

His back-to-back national team selections underline both his talent and consistency, demonstrating sustained excellence rather than a one-off achievement.

As Harvey prepares to represent England once again and compete against some of Europe’s best young basketball players, his achievements serve as an inspiration to aspiring athletes across Huddersfield.
