Landmark deal marks new era for club as long-term home is safeguarded

Huddersfield Town have officially secured full ownership of the Accu Stadium and its surrounding 53-acre site, following a landmark agreement with Kirklees Council and Huddersfield Giants.

The deal sees the football club take sole control of the ground for the first time since its move from Leeds Road in 1994.

Huddersfield Town now hold 100% ownership of Kirklees Stadium Development Limited, which was previously shared between the three parties.

A Historic Milestone

The acquisition gives Huddersfield Town complete operational control of the stadium under a 300-year leasehold, securing the club’s long-term future in the heart of the town.

Club leaders described the move as a strategically significant moment, opening the door to regeneration, expansion, and development opportunities both for the stadium and the wider site.

Existing stadium staff will now join Huddersfield Town’s workforce, while the Huddersfield Giants have agreed a tenancy arrangement ensuring their continued presence at the Accu Stadium for the 2026 season.

“A jewel in the crown”

Huddersfield Town Chairman Kevin Nagle said that from the very beginning of his tenure, he had identified the Accu Stadium as “a potential jewel in the crown of the Club” and had entered discussions to explore the possibility of taking control and ownership for the first time in the club’s history.

He admitted the process had not been easy but emphasised that “having the ability to shape the future of our Club’s home is hugely important to us.”

Nagle also paid tribute to Kirklees Council, Ken Davy and the Huddersfield Giants for working together to make the agreement possible, describing it as “an important deal for us all, the people of Huddersfield and Town supporters included.”

Looking ahead, he said the club would use “time, care and intelligent investment” to bring the stadium back to its full potential, calling it “a unique stadium with the opportunity to become a true destination venue.”

Plans, he added, were already in place to evolve and future-proof the site, while ensuring it remained the long-term home of Huddersfield Town.

Chief Executive Jake Edwards described the announcement as “a proud day for everyone connected to the Club,” saying he was delighted that Huddersfield Town were now in total control of their home.

He noted that the deal had been “a long time in the making” and pointed to the significant infrastructural improvements already carried out at the stadium during the summers of 2024 and 2025 as a sign of the ambition and investment being driven by Chairman Kevin Nagle.

Edwards said the club wanted the Accu Stadium to be a place that staff, players and supporters could feel proud of every time they visited.

“Opening the door to increased revenue opportunities, wider developments, and so much more, taking operational control is only the start of our many plans,” he explained.

He also welcomed the stadium’s staff to the Huddersfield Town team and thanked the Huddersfield Giants for their cooperation.

Looking forward, Edwards said there was a “hugely exciting, bright future ahead of us both on and off the pitch,” describing the deal as “an important milestone on that journey.”
