141-room hotel proposed as part of wider stadium and regeneration ambitions

Huddersfield Town has officially submitted a planning application for a new hotel development at the Accu Stadium, marking the first major phase of its wider plans to regenerate the stadium site and surrounding area.

If approved, the development will see a 141-room Hilton Garden Inn hotel built adjacent to the Terriers Together North Stand.

The project would redevelop the former Kirklees Active Leisure offices and facilities, creating new accommodation while remodelling existing premium hospitality spaces and 14 matchday boxes.

The proposal forms part of the Club’s long-term vision following its acquisition of the Accu Stadium and the surrounding 53-acre site in September 2025.

New facilities planned for supporters and visitors

The proposed hotel has been designed to provide facilities for both overnight guests and matchday visitors.

Current plans include a 100-seat restaurant and bar, a glass atrium and a gym for hotel guests.

The existing H Town venue would also be incorporated into the development, with redesigned ground-floor public spaces intended to provide additional hospitality and social areas that can be used on both matchdays and throughout the year.

Huddersfield Town has partnered with Hilton Hotels to bring the Hilton Garden Inn brand to the stadium.

The brand already operates at a number of sporting venues across the UK, including Silverstone and other football, cricket and motor racing stadiums.

North Stand closure planned during construction

Under the current construction proposals, the Terriers Together North Stand would be closed for the 2027/28 season while building work takes place.

The Club says access to the remainder of the stadium, including turnstiles and concourses, would remain unaffected.

Supporters who may be impacted by the temporary closure will be contacted once construction timelines have been confirmed.

Part of wider regeneration plans

The hotel development represents the first significant project since Huddersfield Town took full ownership of the stadium and surrounding land.

The Club says the development is intended to support the regeneration of the area while creating new year-round revenue streams beyond football.

“We have teamed up with Hilton Hotels to bring the Hilton Garden Inn brand, as they share our same vision that goes far beyond the building itself.

“Having acquired the full 53-acre site surrounding our home in HD1 last year, this marks the true start of our first stage of development and initial steps toward becoming a real year-round destination and venue, breathing new life and possibilities into the Club and our stadium.

“I have stated from the first time I stepped into Huddersfield just over three years ago that the potential is here. I fell in love with the place from day one. And with the help of the team we’ve assembled, we are fully focused on turning that potential into a reality for all to benefit from.

“This is a massive next step.”

The planning application will now be considered by the local planning authority before any construction work can begin.

If permission is granted, the hotel would become a significant addition to the Accu Stadium site as part of the Club’s long-term redevelopment strategy.
