It was a very tight game, but Huddersfield Town will go through to the next round of the FA Cup!
Huddersfield previously played local side Barnsley FC for their round of the FA Cup, and this was certainly a close game with a late controversial decision!
Huddersfield started the game off strong like they normally do, making an early impression on the visitors and putting pressure on Barnsley. This then paid off with a goal coming in after only 20 minutes from Daune Holmes with good control and a nice finish.
Then there were a couple of other good opportunities for Huddersfield, but they just didn’t go their way in the end.
Then just as everyone thought it was all over, Barnsley managed to get a goal in the final minute of the game but was then disallowed for a push in the box. After seeing this myself on the replay, I think this was a shocking decision and that this goal should have stood for Barnsley, and the game should have gone to extra time. However, it is what the referee has seen in the moment, and that is what you must go with. If VAR was involved, I think that this could have been a different outcome.

Overall, I think that this was a great win for Huddersfield, but they certainly could have done with that second goal to give them the leeway needed, the late drama was a perfect example of this and with the second goal, this would have covered the Terriers if the goal was allowed.
Since the match, Huddersfield has drawn their next team in the FA Cup – results being Leicester City FC or Nottingham Forrest. The game was played later that day and Forrest managed to get a brilliant win against The Foxes, meaning that Huddersfield will be playing another on-form team for their next round in the cup.
The game will be played in early March on 02/03/2022 against Nottingham Forest for a mid-week match.
