Huddersfield’s New Library Hub and Queensgate Square Set to Open with Week of Free Celebrations

New cultural spaces to launch with family activities, live music and creative workshops

Huddersfield is set to welcome a new Library Hub and Queensgate Square next month, with a week of free activities planned to celebrate their opening.

The new Library Hub will officially open to the public on Monday 21 September, marking one of the first completed spaces within the Our Cultural Heart project.

The new Queensgate Square will also form part of the celebrations as Huddersfield town centre continues its transformation.

A special programme of events will take place throughout opening week, culminating in an opening weekend on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September.

Visitors will be able to enjoy live music, creative workshops, arts and crafts, skateboarding sessions, traditional games, food and drink, alongside activities designed for people of all ages.

A new home for Huddersfield’s library services

The new Library Hub has been designed as a modern, welcoming space where people can read, learn, study, get creative and connect with others.

During opening week, visitors will have the opportunity to explore the new building, meet the library team and discover the services, facilities and activities available.

The opening is expected to provide a new focal point for library users, families, students and people looking for somewhere to learn, work or spend time in the town centre.

Opening weekend brings free activities

The celebrations will continue on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September, when the Library Hub and Queensgate Square will host a range of free entertainment and activities.

At the Library Hub on Saturday, activities will begin from 9.30 am and include:

Lego Club
Chess Club
Knit and Natter
A family Library Adventures Trail
Makerspace demonstrations

The opening weekend will provide an opportunity for visitors to explore the new building while taking part in some of the activities available.

Queensgate Square to come alive

From 12 noon until 5 pm on Saturday, and throughout Sunday, Queensgate Square will host live music, arts and crafts, interactive workshops, community art activities and traditional games.

Food and drink vendors will also be present, giving visitors the chance to experience the new public space as part of the opening celebrations.

The events are intended to provide something for families, residents and visitors as the square officially becomes part of Huddersfield’s town centre offer.
