Hundreds gathered outside the steps of Huddersfield Town Hall yesterday (11 September) to witness the official announcement of our new Monarch, His Majesty King Charles III.
Residents welcomed the reign of the new king in an emotional ceremony held by Kirklees Council and the Mayor of Kirklees, Councillor Masood Ahmed a 2 pm on Sunday.
Councillor Ahmed appeared on the balcony of Huddersfield Town Hall, and announced the new Monarch with the local Proclamation.
The announcement followed similar ceremonies that took place across the United Kingdom, following the formal announcement of King Charles III during the Ascension Council on Saturday.
The Proclamation was livestreamed online on Kirklees Council’s YouTube Channel.
The ceremony began with an introduction and overview from Deputy Lieutenant Johnathon Hammond Booth and Acting Chief Executive Rachel Spencer-Henshall. Councillor Ahmed then officially announced the new Monarch with the local Proclamation.
The ceremony was then concluded with a rendition of the national anthem, performed by Thom Meredith, Principal of Musica Kirklees.
Councillor Ahmed’s full Proclamation can be read below, and a recording of the livestreamed event can be viewed on Kirklees Council’s YouTube channel.
