Hands-on training, guaranteed interviews, and real employment outcomes for local residents in a growing sector

Kirklees residents now have the opportunity to train for a meaningful career in Early Years education through a fully funded Skills Bootcamp run by Kirklees Council’s Adult Learning team.

The programme, recently praised by Ofsted for the high quality of its learning provision, offers practical, job-ready training to help learners move into employment.

Skills Bootcamps are part of the national Skills for Life initiative and provide fast-track training in sectors including early education, construction, and digital marketing.

The Early Years course is an eight-week programme with 60 hours of face-to-face learning delivered over two days per week, equipping participants with the specialist skills required to work with young children.

On completing the course, every learner is guaranteed a job interview with a local employer, giving them a clear pathway into a rewarding career.

Real Progress, Real Impact

Cllr Amanda Pinnock, Cabinet Member for Education and Communities, highlighted the importance of these programmes: “The Skills Bootcamps are a brilliant opportunity for people in our community to gain practical, employable skills in a growing sector.

“Early Years education plays such a vital role in shaping children’s futures, and we’re proud to help more local people take their first steps into this rewarding profession.”

Since September 2024, 39 learners have completed the Early Years Skills Bootcamp.

Of those, 11 have already secured permanent roles, with others actively seeking work, volunteering, or gaining experience through schools and agencies.

One of the programme’s recent graduates, Kerry, has already started working in a local primary school. She praised the course, saying: “I feel confident, proud and privileged. This course has been a lot more in depth than I thought it would be and I’ve developed my knowledge and understanding.

“I’m looking forward to working with young children and being a huge help in their learning journey. I have thoroughly enjoyed the Skills Bootcamp and would recommend it to anyone thinking about a career in Early Years. Tutors are extremely knowledgeable, very kind and supportive.”

Safeguarding and child protection
The value of play in learning
Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework
Supporting speech, language and communication
Promoting personal, social and emotional development
Early maths and literacy
Supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
Paediatric First Aid training
