Kirklees Council, in collaboration with the West Yorkshire Violence Reduction Partnership and other local authorities in West Yorkshire, has embarked on a critical mission to address serious violence within the community.

In line with the government’s recent commitment to understanding and mitigating the causes of serious violence, the council has launched a public consultation to gather insights from residents of all ages.

The initiative forms part of the broader Serious Violence Duty, a government mandate requiring violence reduction partnerships across the country to engage with the public.

This effort aims to capture the sentiments and suggestions of adults and young people on the root causes of serious violence and to explore potential measures to curb it.

Engaging the Community

As part of the consultation, Kirklees Council is conducting two surveys: one tailored for older youths and adults, and a second designed specifically for younger children. The council is urging residents to participate and share their perspectives, highlighting the importance of community input in shaping effective violence reduction strategies.
