Vaccinations for COVID-19 are being rolled out across the country and Kirklees is no exception. However, some Kirklees residents have been unable to get to their vaccination as they don’t have access to transport.
What is the Council’s Solution?
Therefore, Kirklees Council is working with local GPs to ensure that no one misses their vaccine appointment.
In order to provide transport assistance, the council have mobilised staff from across the council.
The Council mobilised their staff from across the district. They will provide transportation assistance to ensure that those eligible can access the vaccine.
With help from the Denby Dale Centre, the council started their transport support yesterday, 11 January. The transport service will be on hand to get residents to their local GPs. A step towards ensuring the vaccine is accessible for everyone.
“…nobody misses out”
Councillor Mus Khan, Cabinet Member for Health and Social Care, said:
“We have been working really hard to put in place transport measures for those who find themselves unable to physically get to their GP surgery.
“This is the largest vaccination programme this country has ever seen and we are playing our part in making sure that no one misses out.
“Please remember that you will be contacted by your GP when you are eligible for the vaccine but in the meantime continue to stay at home and follow the public health guidance.”
Dr Burhan Ahmed, Clinical Director for Greenwood PCN & GP at Croft Medical Centre said:
“We realise the difficulties some patients will have in accessing vaccination centres due to transport. This new patient transport service provided by the Council is an excellent way of ensuring all patients can access their vaccinations and nobody misses out.
“We are working closely with local providers to deliver this vaccination programme and patients will receive an invitation from the GP or the national booking system. When you get an invitation for your vaccination, please state if you will have any difficulties getting to the vaccination centre.
“Please do not contact your surgery prior to receiving an invitation as you will not be able to get an appointment without one. Stay safe and please continue to follow national guidance.”
