Kirklees Local Television (KLTV) is proud to announce the release of the official trailer for Huddersfield Windrush Forgotten Veterans. 

The trailer offers a first look at KLTV’s upcoming documentary that seeks to honour the history and contributions of Black soldiers, who served Britain from the formation of the West India Regiments since 1795, as well as those who fought in World War 1 as part of the British West Indies Regiment, and later in the Caribbean Regiment during World War 2.

Black soldiers have also served in Britain’s Royal Navy and Royal Air Force.

The film especially spotlights the contributions and experiences of Huddersfield’s Windrush Forgotten Veterans since 1960, who have often been historically overlooked despite their decorated service.

This powerful new project, set for release in July 2025, is supported by a prestigious grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.

It will explore the personal stories of these veterans, examining their sacrifices, challenges and legacies, both within the armed forces and in civilian life.

In addition, a three-hour digital educational workshop is being developed for schools and colleges to ensure these vital stories are preserved and shared with future generations.

“This project is a celebration and a long-overdue tribute to the untold stories and unsung heroes of our community,” said Project Director Edwin Baker.

“Through this documentary, we aim to highlight these Huddersfield Windrush Veterans’ resilience, courage, and extraordinary contributions.

“These stories deserve to be heard, remembered, and cherished.

“We hope it sparks reflection, pride, and a deeper recognition of how their journey has shaped the very fabric of our society.

“We are thrilled to have received support with this project from The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players for making this project possible.”

The trailer is now available to watch on KLTV’s digital platforms, offering a compelling preview of what promises to be a moving and informative exploration of an often-forgotten chapter in British military, social and cultural history.
