Kirklees parks and green spaces recognised among the UK’s best, with Oakwell Hall earning additional heritage accreditation

Six of Kirklees’ most treasured parks and green spaces have once again been recognised as some of the best in the country after retaining their prestigious Green Flag Awards.

Beaumont Park, Greenhead Park, Castle Hill, Crow Nest Park, Oakwell Hall Country Park and Wilton Park have all achieved Green Flag status for another year, recognising the high standards of care, maintenance and management across the borough’s green spaces.

Adding to the celebrations, Oakwell Hall Country Park has also retained its Green Heritage Site Accreditation, recognising the outstanding conservation and management of its historic features.

Recognition for dedicated teams and volunteers

The awards reflect the ongoing commitment of Kirklees Council’s Parks and Greenspaces Team, whose work is supported throughout the year by volunteers and local Friends of Parks groups.

Their combined efforts help ensure that the borough’s parks remain welcoming, well-maintained and enjoyable places for residents and visitors alike.

National benchmark for quality green spaces

The Green Flag Award scheme is managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy on behalf of the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government.

The scheme recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark for quality across the United Kingdom and internationally.

Retaining Green Flag status demonstrates that Kirklees’ parks continue to meet the high standards expected for accessibility, environmental management, cleanliness, safety and community involvement.

Pride in Kirklees’ green spaces

David Shepherd, Executive Director for Place at Kirklees Council, said: “I am filled with pride to hear that Kirklees Parks have retained their Green Flag status.
