Green Party Leader Zack Polanski visited the Newsome Centre in Kirklees on Sunday, 18th January 2026.

Speaking to a packed room of over 200 party members and councillors, Polanski discussed the party’s vision and local issues during his visit to Huddersfield.

Elected as leader in September 2025, Polanski used this visit to rally support ahead of the May 2026 local elections. Joined by prominent local figures, including Kirklees Green Group Leader Cllr Andrew Cooper, the discussion focused on:

The “Politics of Hope”: Polanski’s vision for an “eco-populist” alternative to the status quo, aiming to engage disaffected voters.

Local Ambitions: Strategies for retaining and gaining seats in Kirklees, a key target area for the party.

Community Investment: Support for local initiatives, including the recent push by Green councillors for Huddersfield to bid for the “UK Town of Culture” title.

National Issues: Addressing the cost of living crisis, wealth inequality, and the need for bold environmental action.
