Prepare for a groundbreaking musical experience as the acclaimed Ligeti Quartet presents their new album ‘Nuc’ at Create Lab in the Barbara Hepworth Building at the University of Huddersfield.
This special concert will be held on Wednesday the 17th of April from 7 pm and is part of the innovative Cultures of Creative Health programme.
Collaborating with the Mercury Prize-nominated composer Anna Meredith, the Ligeti Quartet will showcase Meredith’s captivating fusion of acoustic and electronic music for string quartets. Audiences can expect a thrilling survey of Meredith’s unique and dynamic musical style.
The evening will commence with a unique performance featuring student compositions paired with improvised visuals created by talented Contemporary Art students.

“Nuc” was born from a collaboration between Anna Meredith and Ligeti Quartet violist Richard Jones.
They realized their extensive work together had resulted in an album’s worth of material, inspiring them to capture Meredith’s original works for string quartet in a studio setting and to create new arrangements of her acclaimed electronic and dance compositions.
This captivating performance delves into the sounds we experience daily, both in wellbeing practices and medical environments, featuring not just traditional strings, but also synths, drum machines, birdsong, MRI scanner sounds, brass, and hums.
