Get ready for a captivating evening as local author Paul Gould takes the stage at the Huddersfield Literature Festival on Saturday, April 27th.

The event will be held at the Small Seeds bar in Huddersfield town centre from 7 pm to 8:45 pm.

Paul will read from their recently published novel, “Last Dance at the Discotheque for Deviants as part of Polari, a literary Salon which Celebrates LGBTQ+ writing talent.

This thrilling whodunnit, love story, and insightful look into the early 1990s Russian state offers a unique blend of suspense, heartbreak, and historical significance against a backdrop of underground discos.

The novel delves into the tumultuous period following the collapse of the USSR. It’s a story of corruption, societal upheaval, and the emergence of a hidden LGBTQ+ community amidst the chaos.

About the Author

Paul David Gould grew up in Huddersfield and graduated from the University of Birmingham with a First in Russian. After graduation, he spent four years in the former Soviet Union, which is where he made his start in journalism. Now working as a sub-editor on the Financial Times Weekend section, Paul still occasionally writes about Russia.

Paul’s first novel Last Dance at the Discotheque for Deviants was published by Unbound Firsts in 2023.
