A creative candle maker has launched a new ‘Eco-friendly’ toiletry range, using sugarcane, which is being hailed as a game-changer for the beauty industry.
Founder of Huddersfield-based Snug Aromatics, Maureen Connor says she has big plans to set her business further alight with her first-ever toiletry collection – spanning hair and body wash, conditioner, handwash and also body lotion – with bottles made from 100% fully recyclable and compostable sugarcane.
Maureen manufactures her own range of scents, with aromatherapy oils infused into handmade natural wax candles and reed diffusers.
In addition, refills for reed diffusers are now also housed in the plastic-free bottles, caps and pump dispensers.
The toiletries are all cruelty-free and are the ‘next natural step’ for customers to enjoy, says Maureen.
“I’m now using 100% recyclable UK made bottles throughout my range. I manufacture natural products with therapeutic grade essential oils and it’s important to have packaging that has the same synergy.
“I believe this type of technology is a game-changer.”
She continued: “I’ve been making my own toiletries for myself for many years. It’s a natural transition for my loyal customer base and I’m excited to see their reaction.
“I’m launching with three existing candle scents that automatically fit well with toiletries due to their essential oils that are both calming and good for your skin.”

Maureen aims to double turnover over the next 12 months and explained: “I was able to develop the toiletry range with investment after winning a local business competition and I’m really grateful for the on-going support of Charlesworth Business Growth Services.
“Snug has been working really hard over the past year to become more environmentally aware.” ,
Maureen highlighted the recycled paper that is used for their candle and reed diffuser boxes as well as sustainable wax and only essential oils that are cruelty-free and have not been tested on animals.
She continued: “In addition, we recycle product boxes, use Eco tape which is plastic-free when posting out and utilise eco bubble wrap to protect products.”
“I’m very proud to unveil our innovative, recyclable, sustainable bottles produced from the waste of sugarcane which are a key part of our exciting new toiletries range.
“I do listen to my customers who are helping me to shape the business and sourcing the best quality materials I possibly can is my top priority. Together we can all be greener.”
She concluded: “I firmly believe toiletries will take Snug onto a different level. It’s about the whole aromatherapy experience from home fragrance to hand, body and bath.
“There’s a lot of people conscious of what they put on their skin. I know they get comfort from the candles and reed diffusers, so the toiletries can add to the quality of their life too.”
