A local duo is preparing to swap solid ground for the open skies this month in a daring bid to raise vital funds for care-experienced young people across Kirklees.

On 10th April 2026, Stephanie Hill and her brother Matt will take part in the Terriers Sky Dive, a high-octane fundraiser dedicated to the Huddersfield Town Foundation.

The challenge will see the pair leap from a plane at thousands of feet, all to support a cause that provides a lifeline for young adults transitioning out of the care system.

A Crucial Cause for Kirklees Youth

For many young people in the region, the transition to adulthood comes with unique challenges. The funds raised from this skydive are earmarked specifically for those who have spent their childhood in local authority care.

On the fundraising page, Stephanie shared: “I can’t quite believe I’m saying this, but on the 10th April 2026, my brother Matthew and I will be taking part in the Terriers Sky Dive — yes, we are jumping out of a plane! — to support the incredible work of the Huddersfield Town Foundation.

“The funds we raise will help provide positive events and activities for care-experienced young people in Kirklees, a cause that has come to mean a great deal to me.”

Bridging the Gap for Care Leavers

When young people in care reach 18, they often face the daunting prospect of independent living without the traditional safety nets many take for granted.

The Huddersfield Town Foundation aims to fill that void by providing the same enrichment opportunities available to their peers.

“Care leavers are young adults who have spent some or all of their childhood in the care of the local authority”, Stephanie said. “

“When they turn 18, many begin living independently, often without the family networks that so many rely on.

“The funds we raise will help ensure they have access to the same positive, fun, confidence‑building opportunities as their peers — opportunities that truly matter to our young adults and are deeply appreciated.”

Previous fundraising efforts have already seen tangible results, proving that every penny raised translates into meaningful experiences.

Stephanie added: “Thanks to previous fundraising, care leavers have been able to enjoy day trips, sports sessions, creative and music activities, our annual awards celebration recognising their achievements, and even a Christmas Day lunch. These moments create connection, joy, and memories that last.”

Facing Fears for a Greater Goal

While the prospect of free-falling is enough to make anyone’s stomach churn, the siblings are drawing strength from the resilience of the young people they are seeking to help.

“Although the thought of this skydive is extremely nerve‑wracking, I only have to think about the challenges and adversity our care leavers have faced throughout their lives to find all the motivation I need.

“If they can overcome so much, I can certainly jump out of a plane and spend a few minutes falling through the sky to help create more positive opportunities for them.”
