Huddersfield’s creative hub brims with activities and community spirit this May half term and beyond
MakerWorld, the vibrant creative space in Huddersfield, is brimming with exciting updates, events, and opportunities as we head into the May half term and summer.
The Colourful World of Bacteria
Following the successful launch of the new MakerWorld Gallery, the current exhibition, The Colourful World of Bacteria, created by children for children with Arts Council support, has been met with enthusiastic praise.
But the fun doesn’t stop there! In June, the gallery will welcome a brand new exhibition, From Plant to Sculpture – Experiments in Biophilic Form, led by Isobel Denton.
Youth Club Needs a Table Tennis Table!
The Wednesday evening Youth Club (7–9 pm) has been a huge hit, with skatepark action, DJ workshops, graffiti art and more on offer for young people from Year 7 upwards.
However, there’s one thing missing: a table tennis or pool table. If anyone has one looking for a new home, MakerWorld would love to hear from you!
Pif-Paf Theatre’s Right To Play
During half term, Pif-Paf Theatre brings their inspiring project Right To Play to MakerWorld on Thursday 29 May and Saturday 31 May.
Rooted in Article 31 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the project blends theatre and play to encourage families and communities to break barriers and play together.
Two New Artist Commissions
As part of the Play|Create|Repeat programme, MakerWorld has launched two new artist commissions.
Open to artists in any medium, these commissions will run residencies in September and October, each culminating in an exhibition and at least one hands-on session for participants.
The deadline for applications is midnight on 6 June 2025.
To apply, visit the Play|Create|Repeat commissions page or contact charlie@thechildrensartschool.co.uk.
Community Collaborations: Dewsbury Food Festival & Pride in the Creative Piazza
Dewsbury Food Festival (28 June) will feature a MakerWorld window exhibition showcasing artwork by Dewsbury families, in partnership with Creative Scene.
On Saturday 7 June, MakerWorld is joining the Creative Piazza for Pride celebrations, featuring a DIY lip-synch karaoke catwalk, live DJs, face-painting, piano open-mic, skateboarding, and a community Pride picnic.
After-School and Weekend Clubs
There’s still time to book your spot in MakerWorld’s after-school and weekend clubs in Holmfirth. Get in touch to find out more!
Creative Parties and Corporate Fun
For birthdays or team-building with a creative twist, MakerWorld offers children’s art parties and corporate away-days/hen parties.
