On Wednesday 6th December, following warnings from local government leaders on the precarious financial picture, the Mayor of West Yorkshire, Tracy Brabin said:

“We have ambitious plans for our region – which will help deliver growth and level up opportunities across the country.”

“But we will never deliver on the full potential of devolution if our local authority partners are pushed into financial Armageddon.”

“It is quite clear that town halls across the country are teetering on the brink. Therefore, I’m urging the government to do the right thing and take action to support local public services before it’s too late.”
