The West Yorkshire Archive Conservation team meticulously repairs volumes from the Registry of Deeds collection at the West Yorkshire History Centre in Wakefield.

The process begins with a careful assessment of the book’s condition, identifying areas of damage such as weakened bindings, torn pages, or deteriorated covers.

Conservators then clean the pages to remove surface dirt and debris before undertaking delicate repairs, which may include mending tears with archival-quality materials and reinforcing the binding.

Each step is carried out with precision to maintain the book’s historical integrity while ensuring its structural stability.

This painstaking work preserves the valuable information contained within these volumes, making them accessible for future generations.

The West Yorkshire History Centre, located in Wakefield, serves as the Wakefield branch of the West Yorkshire Archive Service.

It offers a public exhibition space that welcomes visitors on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10 am to 4 pm.
