This year’s show promises a packed day of animals, entertainment, competitions and medieval-themed family fun

The marquees are up, and preparations are well underway for the return of the Mirfield Agricultural Show, with organisers putting the finishing touches to a packed programme of entertainment and activities for all ages.

The annual event takes place on Sunday 23 August 2026 at The Showground on Huddersfield Road, with this year’s theme, “Everything Medieval”, set to add a historic twist to the traditional agricultural show.

Families can look forward to a full day of animals, farming displays, competitions, live entertainment, crafts, food and hands-on activities.

A packed programme of entertainment

Among the headline attractions will be two spectacular BMX Stunt Show performances in the main ring at 12.15 pm and 3.45 pm.

The medieval theme will feature heavily throughout the day, with visitors able to meet Princess Merida, try their hand at archery and axe-throwing, make a hobby horse, dress up, and create their own medieval hats.

The Hobby Horse Grand Parade will take place in the main ring at 3.15 pm, while singer and comedian Alex Slater will entertain crowds at 1.30 pm.

The main ring programme will also feature the Horse and Pony Show, ATC Marching Band, Sutton School of Performing Arts and Katie Philpott School of Dance.

Animals, farming and family activities

There will be plenty to explore across the showground, including a range of animals and agricultural attractions.

Visitors can meet Joe’s Mobile Farm, Billy Soaps Gruff, Walk on the Wildside and Our Little Home Farm, as well as learning about bees and traditional skep making.

The main field will feature inflatables, Pinxton Puppets, a threshing machine, Brian’s Balloons, a Mirfield fire engine and a host of community organisations.

Meanwhile, Crowlees field will feature Grange Moor Brass Band, Mirfield Martial Arts, donkey rides and the Kids Zone.

The Kids Zone will offer soft play, football skills, a football shootout, a story corner, early years games, archery, crafts, dressing up and opportunities to meet Princess Merida.

Live music throughout the day

Music will also play a major part in the celebrations, with performances taking place on the Music Stage from 10 am until 3.40 pm.

The line-up includes Courtney Ellis, Jake Ash, Sienna Craven, Adam Acoustix, Brad Mack and Birdy.

The Band Tent will also welcome Grange Moor Brass Band for performances at 11 am, 12.30 pm and 2 pm.

Celebrating local talent and community

The show will also showcase local producers, makers and community organisations, with Made in Yorkshire, Mirfield Makers, NJ Ceramics and Mindful Maker among those featured.

There will also be a dog show, children’s competitions and traditional races, including welly wanging, while the competitions marquee will host flower, vegetable, domestic and children’s entries before prize presentations in the afternoon.

Show Chairman Jonathan Evans said: “We can’t wait to see everyone having some fun. Our volunteers have been working hard all year to create a fantastic day for the whole family and to keep it affordable, with many attractions included in the admission price.

Tickets and information

Adult advance tickets are priced at £7.50 until midnight on Saturday 22 August, with tickets available online and from Emporium Mirfield, Pie Shed and Reids of Roberttown.

Adult tickets purchased at the gate cost £12, while accompanied children under 16 can attend for free.
