Northorpe Hall to host celebration of remembrance, resilience, and community spirit
Northorpe Hall Child & Family Trust is set to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day with a special community celebration on Thursday, 8th May 2025, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
Held in the tranquil grounds of Northorpe Hall, this free-entry event promises a vibrant and heartfelt tribute to the sacrifices of the past and the strength of the present.
A Walk Through History: Over 600 Artefacts on Display
A key attraction of the day will be an impressive exhibition of over 600 pieces of war memorabilia, generously shared by local collector Richard Perkins.
His collection spans both World Wars and offers a tangible insight into the lives of those who served.
“I believe these artefacts should be displayed for people to see a piece of war history.
“The fact that soldiers fought on our behalf with very little protection yet won a war through resilience and working with comrades is remarkable,” said Richard.
He continued: “The sacrifices soldiers and people in general made on our behalf should be remembered and celebrated.
“I am proud to be able to share my personal collection of war memorabilia at Northorpe Hall, which is also a place helping children and young people grow their resilience in a changing and pressured world.”
A Day of Family Fun and Reflection
The family-friendly celebration will feature a range of vintage-themed activities and traditional treats, designed to transport visitors back to the 1940s. Highlights include:

Live 1940s music and dancing

Food and cake stalls

Traditional ice-cream stand

Children’s games, crafts, and storytelling

Competitions with hampers and other prizes

WWI and WWII exhibitions and memory-sharing stations

A two-minute silence and commemorative tribute
Guests are encouraged to dress in 1940s attire, though it is entirely optional.
Honouring the Past, Supporting the Future
Northorpe Hall CEO Dipika Kaushal emphasised the event’s dual purpose of remembrance and unity: “VE Day is an important reminder of what we’ve overcome as a nation.
“This event is about honouring history and our brave soldiers by bringing families and the local community together in a spirit of hope and togetherness.”
Proceeds and donations collected on the day will support the Trust’s mission of helping children, young people, and families facing mental health challenges.
