Community workshop in Fartown and Leeds Road will gather local ideas on how to break down barriers to physical activity.
Residents, community groups and local organisations are being invited to take part in a community workshop aimed at improving opportunities for physical activity in the Fartown and Leeds Road area.
The event, led by Move More Kirklees, will take place on Wednesday 12 March from 12:30pm to 2:30pm at the Chestnut Centre.
Organisers say the session will give people the opportunity to share their experiences and ideas about what prevents people from being active locally, and what practical steps could help overcome those challenges.
Identifying barriers to staying active
During the workshop, attendees will be asked to discuss what they believe are the main barriers preventing people in the community from taking part in physical activity.
The session will also explore potential local solutions, with organisers keen to hear suggestions for initiatives, improvements or activities that could help residents of all ages become more active.
Information gathered from previous research will be shared during the workshop, alongside more recent insights collected by Community Champions working in the area.
Participants will then be invited to reflect on what is already working well and identify where further action may be needed.
Funding available for local improvements
Funding has been made available to support projects that address the barriers identified through the consultation process.
This could include commissioning new activities, programmes or physical improvements designed to encourage people to move more within their communities.
Residents invited to help shape decisions
As part of the initiative, organisers are also hoping to involve local residents in deciding how funding should be used.
Community members are being encouraged to put themselves forward, or nominate others, to sit on a funding panel that will help decide which proposed improvements and activities should go ahead.
Organisers say the aim is to ensure local people play a direct role in shaping future opportunities for physical activity in the Fartown and Leeds Road area.
