Evening of reggae, gospel and spoken word promises entertainment while raising vital funds for hurricane recovery efforts

An evening of live music, Caribbean culture and community spirit is set to bring people together in support of those affected by Hurricane Melissa, with a special fundraising concert taking place at the Lawrence Batley Theatre on Thursday, 30 July.

The evening will showcase an exciting mix of reggae, gospel, spoken word and live performances, while raising much-needed funds for Hurricane Melissa Relief.

Every ticket sold and every donation made on the night will help support communities impacted by the devastating storm.

The event is being held in partnership between the Huddersfield Literature Festival, Kirklees Local TV and the Lawrence Batley Theatre.

Music and entertainment from start to finish

The evening begins at 6 pm in the theatre’s courtyard, where Lexus Audio Movements UK Soundsystem will provide the soundtrack alongside authentic Caribbean cuisine served by Gravy’s Caribbean Flavour

From 7.30 pm, nationally renowned host MC Foxy will take to the stage to guide audiences through a vibrant programme of performances celebrating music, culture and community.

Diverse line-up of performers

The fundraiser features an impressive line-up of artists from across the region and beyond, including:

• Huddersfield Gospel Community Choir, bringing uplifting harmonies and inspirational performances.
• Dee Bo General, the internationally recognised recording artist and master of ceremonies.
• Ras Sista Highness, performing thought-provoking Jamaican spoken word.
• Monique, showcasing her talents as a saxophonist and vocalist.
• Shanté, whose powerful vocal performances have earned widespread acclaim.
• Positive Vybz, delivering headline live reggae music to close the night.

Organisers hope the event will not only provide an unforgettable evening of entertainment but also encourage the community to come together in support of those rebuilding their lives after Hurricane Melissa.

Tickets are priced between £5 and £10, making the event accessible while helping to maximise funds for the relief effort.
