Families invited to enjoy a day of gaming, miniature painting and mining-inspired fun at Caphouse Colliery
Families, gamers and curious newcomers are being invited to roll the dice and test their tactical skills at a brand new Tabletop Gaming Day at the National Coal Mining Museum for England.
The free drop-in event takes place on Saturday 3 October, from 11 am to 3 pm, at the museum, with visitors able to enjoy a range of tabletop gaming experiences inspired by some of the world’s best-known science fiction and gaming franchises.
A day of gaming for all ages
The Museum is teaming up with Powder Monkey Gaming to host the action-packed event, which is designed to welcome everyone from experienced hobbyists to complete beginners.
Visitors will be able to take part in tabletop experiences inspired by Star Wars, Doctor Who and classic wargaming, while meeting fellow players and gaming enthusiasts.
Among the games on offer will be a unique experience featuring a mining pit wheel, bringing the Museum’s industrial heritage into the world of tabletop gaming.
The event provides an opportunity for visitors to discover the hobby in a relaxed and welcoming environment, with no previous gaming experience required.
Paint your own miniature
As well as the games themselves, visitors can try their hand at miniature painting at a free miniature-painting station.
Participants will be able to paint their own miniature and take it home with them, while a selection of gaming merchandise will also be available to purchase during the event.
Whether visitors are already passionate about tabletop gaming or simply looking to try something new, organisers say there will be something for everyone.
Bringing mining history to life
The event will also give families the opportunity to explore the wider National Coal Mining Museum, combining gaming with the chance to discover more about the region’s coal mining heritage.
Lynn Dunning, CEO of the National Coal Mining Museum for England, said: “The Caphouse Tabletop Gaming Day promises to be another fantastic family day here at the Museum.
“We’re delighted that there will be a special game to enjoy, featuring elements of coal mining, bringing the history of the industry to life in a totally interactive way!
“The event also provides the perfect opportunity to explore our amazing museum and enjoy everything the Museum has to offer, making the perfect weekend trip out.”
The Tabletop Gaming Day is a free drop-in event, with no booking or previous experience required.
