By Joshua Robinson –
A new gymnasium that opened on Huddersfield’s Tandem leisure and retail park at the weekend (Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th March) is offering local youngsters an alternative to life choices which can lead to gangs and knife crime.
Boredom, a lack of opportunity, negative peer pressure, online influences, and inadequate facilities have all been factors blamed for a disassociated youth.
However, The Gymnastics Academy is hoping to combat this by offering discounts and incentives to ensure sessions at the purpose-built centre on the premises of the former Soccer City site are accessible to all.
Flexible payment terms, referral schemes, and discounts for siblings are also on offer, while free lessons for school children will also be provided until the end of April.
The Gymnastics Academy’s Tammy Allman said: “Taking part in one of our training sessions can be transformative, empowering and filled with joy.”
“We aim to offer a place where every child’s gymnastics journey can begin – but it’s not just about the sport; it’s about building a positive foundation for a lifetime of success.”
“We believe in the power of every somersault, every leap, and every twist to shape not just bodies but minds. Our dedicated team of experienced coaches is committed to providing a nurturing environment where every child can flourish.”

Options on offer at The Gymnastics Academy from the weekend will include multi-level gymnastics, parent and toddler classes, bespoke party rooms, and holiday camps.
Tammy added: “Our mission statement is to ensure every session enhances memory retention and provides challenge-based learning whilst developing co-ordination, flexibility and strength.”
The Gymnastics Academy also hopes the weekend’s launch will help to fill the breach left across the Huddersfield area by the closure of a number of clubs and leisure centre facilities.
Each of the The Gymnastics Academy’s coaches has undergone thorough DBS checks and fully supports the company’s aim to provide top-notch instruction in a safe and supportive environment.
The schedule for the open weekend at the new Tandem Park venue is as follows:
- 9am – Parent and toddler classes.
- 10am & 11am – Classes for three to five-year-olds.
- 12pm & 1pm – Classes for five to eight-year-olds.
- 2pm – Classes for nine-year-olds and upwards.
- 4pm – Competition squad try outs.
