Kirklees Active Leisure’s recent and sudden decision to temporarily close three of their facilities until at least the end of March has had a wide-reaching effect on the people who live in the areas affected.
Most locals are unsure if KAL will ever open the centre back up at all, but it didn’t take long for the community to act, arranging meetings and protests. People came together to support their local sports centres.
On Wednesday 11th January, residents of Deighton, Batley and the Colne Valley gathered at Huddersfield Town Hall to protest against the closures and address councillors at the Kirklees Council Full meeting.
KLTV spoke with attendees about their concerns about the health and well-being of the people who use the facilities, and what they’re hoping to achieve through their various campaigns.
