State-of-the-art Humanities building marks a major milestone in the school’s continued commitment to excellence and sustainability.

North Huddersfield Trust School (NHTS) is celebrating the official opening of its brand-new, purpose-built teaching block, a £3 million investment in the future of its students and the wider community.

The five-classroom facility, which welcomed pupils at the start of the September 2025 term, is now home to the Humanities department, including History and Geography.

Designed to enhance the learning experience, the new block offers a modern, sustainable, and flexible environment tailored to the needs of today’s learners.

“A Learning Space That Supports Modern Education”

Andrew Elliott, Lead Practitioner and Teacher of Geography, expressed his enthusiasm for the new facilities: “The classrooms are very spacious and provide students with a learning space that truly supports modern education.

“They feature the latest state-of-the-art Promethean boards and benefit from plenty of natural lighting to support well-being and health.

“They have also been sustainably designed to reduce environmental impact, with features including rooftop solar panels and an advanced air circulation system to help keep classrooms cooler during the summer months.”

This eco-conscious approach reflects the school’s commitment not only to academic excellence but also to environmental responsibility.

Expanding Capacity and Opportunity

The addition of the new building increases NHTS’s capacity from 900 to 1,020 student places, a testament to the growing demand for places at the school and its reputation for delivering high-quality education.

Student President, Daniel Obaloluwa Ayo-Makinde, shared his excitement about the new learning space: “I really love the new teaching block.

“With all the improved facilities that are in there, it’s a place that I know every student and teacher would want to be, every day.”

Looking Ahead: Building on Success

The new teaching block forms part of a wider plan to modernise and improve the entire school site.

Future developments include a new IT suite and upgrades to existing classrooms and corridors, ensuring NHTS continues to provide students with a cutting-edge education environment.

Headteacher Andrew Fell expressed his pride in the project and its impact: “I would like to thank Kirklees Council in supporting the delivery of this project which represents a major milestone in our ongoing journey of improvement.

“The new teaching block, boasting the very best facilities, is a fabulous development to our learning environment and a reflection of the ambition we hold to provide the highest quality education and best experience of high school for all our students.
