In the past four weeks, more than 100 illegal drivers have been dealt with in an effort to make roads safer in Kirklees.

Over 30 speeding drivers and one drug driver were among those dealt with in December. This is one part of Operation Trimburg, an initiative set out by West Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Unit and Kirklees neighbourhood policing teams.

The operation, launched nearly 12 months ago, aims to reduce fatal and serious road incidents in Batley and Spen, Dewsbury, and Mirfield.

West Yorkshire Police seized two cars relating to document offences and they arrested a driver on suspicion of drug driving.

Out of 100 drivers reported, 26 were caught with seatbelt offences, 32 for speeding, and eight for driving without due care or attention.

The majority of drivers caught will be dealt with through fines, points or further action in more serious incidents.

Operation Trimburg focuses on reducing the #fatal5 offences. These include: speeding, not wearing a seatbelt, drink and drug driving, using a mobile phone and careless driving.

This operation has seen police carry out car-based patrols and surveillance in North Kirklees communities.

West Yorkshire Police remains committed to West Yorkshire Combined Authority’s road aim, Vision Zero, to eliminate all traffic fatalities and severe injuries. This will ensure that there is an increase in safe, healthy, mobility across West Yorkshire.
