Parent Sanctuary, a Huddersfield based Community Interest Company, aims to help the physical and mental health of children and families with natural and evidence-based activities.
The company has been taking people for nature walks to help boost mental health. By offering two walks a week, they can get in some physical exercise and socialising.
Each week, Parent Sanctuary offer child-friendly cafe meets. Additionally, they host a postpartum project in Upper Cumberworth, which helps navigate the first days of babyhood. The first cohort’s feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with 100% saying that all parents of new babies should attend the class.
The company aims to make a difference to parents and families through child-friendly support and activities. They aim to spread calmness, understanding and confidence to parenting and create a network in which parents can make friends and feel that they are not alone or isolated.
Recently, the team have been awarded some funding from the Locala Starting Well team. The funding will be used to take out the cost of attending their core provisions – the walks, meets and postpartum support. This means Parent Sanctuary will be able to offer the sessions for free, which opens up accessibility and inclusivity for more people to attend.
The team have also recently had the opportunity to work with NHS Kirklees with a new campaign, ‘Together We Can’.
Parent Sanctuary helped engage and deliver the message of the campaign to parents. The campaign champions the importance of assisting people in making the right choice when it comes to their health care needs.
To achieve this, the team at Parent Sanctuary partnered up with Bikeshed Media, and Splat Training and produced this short video to support the campaign:
