Police have cordoned off a large area of Huddersfield Town Centre after a van crash left a man with a serious head injury.

Police and paramedics were called to Kirkgate in the town centre near McDonalds around noon today (Wednesday, 25 September) after reports of an incident involving a pedestrian being struck by a van.

Paramedics attended to the individual at the scene before they were taken to Leeds General Infirmary with what was described as a ‘serious head injury’.

In a statement to Yorkshire Live, West Yorkshire Police confirmed that the incident involved an elderly male a man, with a spokesperson for Yorkshire Ambulance Service confirming that they recieved a call at 11:51 this morning.

Several police vehicles and ambulances attended the scene.

In images shared with KLTV a few hours after the incident, an individual appeared to be detained by police, though it is not known whether this was related to the accident.

KLTV has reached out to West Yorkshire Police for clarification.

It is expected there will be delays to several bus services as they are rerouted through the town centre.

TeamPennine have confirmed via X that the D1, D2 & D3 services will be diverting via the ring road into Huddersfield Bus Station
