Police in Kirklees have launched a murder investigation following the tragic death of a 16-year-old boy who was stabbed in Huddersfield town centre yesterday (3 April).

Emergency Services Respond to Scene

Emergency services were called to Ramsden Street at approximately 2:45 pm after receiving reports that a male had suffered a stab wound.

Officers attended the scene, and the teenager was rushed to the hospital with a serious neck injury. Despite efforts to save him, he later died as a result of his injuries.

Arrests Made in Connection with the Incident

Police have arrested a 20-year-old local man in connection with the attack. In addition, a 22-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, both from the local area, have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Police Presence and Investigation Underway

A police cordon remains in place around New Street and Ramsden Street as officers work to determine the exact circumstances of the fatal incident.

Senior Investigating Officer Detective Chief Inspector Damian Roebuck said: “This is a tragic incident where a young man has lost his life as a result of a knife injury.

“We have a team of dedicated detectives who are at the scene and investigating this fatal attack.

“Our initial investigations do indicate that it was an isolated incident, and local neighbourhood officers are carrying out reassurance patrols in the area.

“I want to thank witnesses who have come forward so far and would urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that can help our enquiry to please come forward.”

Detectives from West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team are leading the investigation and urge anyone with information to come forward.
