Brian Green, 74, was found guilty on Wednesday of five counts of rape and has been sentenced to 22 years in prison.

However, Green did not show up for his sentencing and is thought to be on the run.

The trial, which took place in March at Leeds Crown Court, revealed that four of the aforementioned five counts of rape related to multiple instances; this brings the total number of offences committed by Green to “a minimum 21 rapes over a four year period” per Prosecutor Katherin Robinson.

Thought to have no fixed address, Green’s offences took place in the Kirklees area and he would often verbally abuse his sole victim, nine when the torment started, the court heard. Ms. Robinson stated that he had told his victim that “no one loved her” and that she was “ugly or stupid”.

The prosecutor added that the victim has incurred “extreme psychological harm” from these experiences and that “he told her not to tell anyone”, leaving her “isolated”.

His Honour Judge Khan KC, who sentenced Green, said his threats and “humiliating” of the victim were “part of the approach of the defendant’s way of controlling her”, going on to comment: “I’m satisfied the defendant was premeditated in the offending.”

He continued: “In reality the only mitigation that the defendant has is the fact that he has no convictions recorded against him.”

Detective Inspector Paul Greatorex (Kirklees District Safeguarding Unit) has issued a public appeal in the search to find Green, saying West Yorkshire Police have an arrest warrant “for failure to attend at court and we would ask anyone who has seen him or has information about his whereabouts to contact Kirklees Police.”
