People across West Yorkshire are being given the chance to shape the future of bus travel by helping to design the inside of the region’s new Weaver Network buses.

A public consultation launched today allows residents to choose their preferences on everything from comfort and accessibility to staying connected while on the move.

The feedback will help shape the new publicly-owned and run bus system, which will be introduced when franchised services are rolled out in 2027 and 2028 as part of West Yorkshire’s integrated Weaver Network.

Comfort, Charging, and Accessibility

The consultation, which runs until mid-December, will present a series of proposed bus seating layouts. Respondents are encouraged to give feedback on crucial elements like wheelchair space, room for prams, and the design of preferential seating.

Passengers will also get a chance to share their thoughts on other possible bus features, including:

• WiFi and USB charging

• On-board temperature control

• Audio-visual announcements

‘A Greener, Better-Connected Region’

Mayor of West Yorkshire Tracy Brabin said the consultation was vital for encouraging more people to use public transport.

“Buses are a vital part of our public transport network, and we need to ensure they are accessible to as many people as possible.

“Having the most comfortable and enjoyable passenger experience will encourage more people to get out of their cars and on to our Weaver Network.

“This shows we are well on our journey to creating a transport system that is easier to use, and a greener, better-connected region that works for all.”

How to Have Your Say

To gather passenger views directly, the West Yorkshire Combined Authority will be touring key bus stations across the region, including Halifax, Bradford, Pontefract, Huddersfield, and Leeds.

The consultation runs until midnight on Sunday, 21 December.
