Residents Asked to Choose from Four Shortlisted Names for Landmark Community Space

People across Huddersfield are being invited to help decide the name of a major new public square taking shape in the heart of the town centre.

The square will form a key part of Our Cultural Heart, the ambitious regeneration project designed to create a vibrant destination for events, dining and everyday community life.

As construction progresses, Kirklees Council is asking residents, businesses and visitors to have their say on what the new space should be called.

A New Centrepiece for the Town

Located at the centre of Huddersfield, the new square is expected to become a focal point for public gatherings, cultural events and social activity.

Council leaders say the name of the square will play an important role in shaping its identity and reflecting the town’s heritage and character.

Members of the public are now being asked to select their preferred option from a shortlist of four names.

Mill Frame Square

A name inspired by Huddersfield’s rich textile heritage, combining a reference to the town’s industrial past with a contemporary feel.

Lions Square

A bold and recognisable choice rooted in Huddersfield’s identity and civic pride.

Queensgate Square

Building on a familiar and well-known town centre location, offering a strong sense of place.

Ramsden Square

Honouring the Ramsden family, whose influence helped shape the development and growth of Huddersfield.

Residents who have a preference are encouraged to take part and help determine the name of what is set to become one of Huddersfield’s most prominent public spaces.

With the square expected to play a central role in the town’s future, organisers say now is the time for the community to make its voice heard.
