There will be a public meeting in Marsden Mechanics at 7 pm on Thursday 17th October, an opportunity for the community to share its opinions on the development of the village, and be introduced to Allies and Morrison Architects and a multidisciplinary team of master planners to flesh out a new Blueprint for Marsden.

The Blueprint is being funded and commissioned by Kirklees Council, who are working with the community. The timing coincides with Marsden getting a new railway station as part of the Transpennine Upgrade.

All of this is also running in parallel with the Levelling Up Fund assisted redevelopment of New Mill in the village centre.

Critical to the working relationship between the community, Council, consultants, and these other organisations is the formation of a Community Partnership to guide the Blueprint production.

The Partnership’s elected Chair, Tom Lonsdale, said: “Kirklees Council have shown remarkable openness to the views of the community in establishing this Partnership and basing the entire brief for the commission on feedback gathered in the What Matters to Marsden questionnaire. The enthusiasm of the Allies and Morrison team is also invigorating because it shows that we residents are not fooling ourselves in thinking that Marsden is a very special place with outstanding potential for the region.”
