Passengers urged to plan ahead as Transpennine Route Upgrade brings weeks of service changes

Rail passengers travelling between Huddersfield and Leeds are being warned to expect significant disruption throughout May and June, as work continues on the multi-billion-pound Transpennine Route Upgrade.

Diversionary routes will be in place during the period, with journey times expected to change.

While rail operators aim to keep passengers on trains wherever possible, replacement bus services will operate on sections of the route where this cannot be achieved.

Why are the closures necessary?

The planned closures are essential to allow the safe delivery of a series of major infrastructure improvements.

These works include track and drainage renewals, bridge upgrades, signalling enhancements, and extensive station improvements along the route.

The ongoing programme is designed to support the introduction of faster, more frequent services, while also delivering a greener and more reliable railway for passengers across the North.

Changes to services

Passengers should be aware that no trains will depart from Huddersfield towards Dewsbury and Leeds on the following dates:

• Monday 4 – Friday 8 May
• Monday 11 – Friday 15 May
• Monday 18 – Friday 22 May
• Sunday 24 May
• Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 May
• Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 June
• Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 June
• Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 June

In addition, there will be no trains running through Dewsbury on the following dates.

During this time, amended timetables will be in operation, with services diverted between Huddersfield and Leeds via Wakefield Kirkgate:

• Monday 1 – Friday 5 June
• Monday 8 – Friday 12 June
• Monday 15 – Friday 19 June
• Monday 22 – Friday 26 June
