Dino Discovery Day promises prehistoric thrills, live shows and hands-on activities for all ages

Families across Yorkshire are being invited to step back in time this March as the National Coal Mining Museum hosts a spectacular dinosaur-themed event packed with entertainment, education and adventure.

Taking place on Saturday 21 March, the Dino Discovery Day promises an action-packed experience where visitors can uncover the fascinating links between dinosaurs and the coal seams buried deep beneath the Earth.

The event offers a rare opportunity to explore how prehistoric life helped shape the natural resources we rely on today.

Throughout the day, guests can meet dinosaurs big and small, enjoy the spectacular Rock ‘n’ Coal Show with fantastic free performances, and take part in a range of interactive activities.

These include minibeast scavenger hunts and dinosaur-themed arts and crafts, ensuring there is something to capture the imagination of every visitor.

Aspiring palaeontologists will also have the chance to attend a dinosaur-themed film screening and meet knowledgeable rangers, who will share fascinating facts about prehistoric creatures through engaging, up-close encounters.

Visitors can round off their day by browsing a selection of dinosaur-themed items available in the Museum’s shop and on-site retailers.

With tickets priced at £15 per car, the event offers excellent value, including access to all Dino Discovery Day activities, live shows, walkabouts and the Museum grounds.

Lynn Dunning, CEO of the National Coal Mining Museum, said: “The links between coal and dinosaurs are really interesting, especially when it comes to fossils, how they were created and their links to the coal seams beneath our feet.

“It really is an amazing day out for all the family and takes place just a week before Easter holidays when we have more action-packed events, pantos, activities, family workshops and tours – making it a must-visit for all the family.”

The event comes just ahead of the Easter holidays, with organisers promising an extended programme of family-friendly entertainment in the weeks that follow.
