KLTV was on the ground at the Chestnut Centre to cover a pivotal community workshop aimed at improving health and movement in the Fartown and Leeds Road areas.
Led by Move More Kirklees, the session brought together residents, community groups, and local organisations to identify the real-world obstacles preventing people from staying active.
From infrastructure concerns to social barriers, the workshop served as a platform for local voices to drive meaningful change.
Event Highlights:
-
Identifying Barriers: Attendees engaged in deep-dive discussions regarding the specific challenges faced by the community in Fartown and Leeds Road.
-
Co-Creating Solutions: The session explored practical, community-led initiatives—ranging from new programmes to physical improvements in the local environment.
-
Data-Driven Insights: Organisers shared previous research and recent findings from Community Champions to help guide the conversation.
-
Funding Opportunities: Information was provided regarding the available funding dedicated to projects that directly address the barriers identified during this consultation.
Empowering Residents: The Funding Panel
A key takeaway from the event is the commitment to resident-led decision-making. Move More Kirklees is currently seeking local individuals to sit on a funding panel. This panel will have the direct power to decide which proposed improvements and activities will receive financial support, ensuring the community remains in control of its own progress.
