RSPCA event will combine a fun dog show, stalls and family entertainment while raising money for the Really Big ReFURb project
Dog lovers are being invited to bring their four-legged friends to Shibden Park in Halifax for a fun-filled day of wagging tails, rosettes and fundraising for local animals in need.
RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield & Bradford Branch will host Shibden Dog Day on Saturday 3 October from 12 pm, with a 12-class fun dog show and a range of stalls and entertainment planned throughout the day.
The event is being held to raise vital funds for the branch’s Really Big ReFURb project, which is transforming its Wade Street Animal Centre in Halifax.
Fun for dogs and their owners
The 12-class fun dog show will give visitors the chance to put their pets in the spotlight, with dogs competing for rosettes and the title of Shibden Dog Day champion.
Visitors will also be able to browse stalls selling dog treats, toys, accessories and other canine essentials, alongside gifts and goodies for human visitors.
Organisers say the event will offer something for the whole family, whether visitors are bringing their own dogs or simply want to spend the day enjoying the atmosphere and surroundings of Shibden Park.
Raising funds for the Really Big ReFURb
Behind the day’s activities is an important fundraising goal, with money raised helping the branch continue its major refurbishment of the Wade Street Animal Centre.
The Really Big ReFURb is designed to create a more modern, comfortable and enriching environment for animals in the branch’s care, providing improved spaces and facilities while they wait to find their forever homes.
The branch has nearly completed Phase One of the project and is due to move into Phase Two in October, with Shibden Dog Day helping to raise funds towards the next stage of the transformation.

Lauren Moore, Fundraising Manager at RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield & Bradford Branch, said: “Shibden Dog Day is going to a lovely day for the local community. We wanted to create an event where people can simply come along, have fun with their dogs, enjoy the atmosphere and get involved in our 12-class fun dog show.
“But behind all the fun, there’s a really important reason for holding the event. Every penny raised will help us continue our Really Big ReFURb and get us closer to completing the transformation of our animal centre.
“We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who supports our appeal, and events like this are a fantastic way for the community to come together and help local animals at the same time.”
Supporting a local charity
RSPCA Halifax, Huddersfield & Bradford Branch is an independent, self-funded local charity. While affiliated with the national RSPCA, the branch receives no funding from the national organisation or the government.
Instead, it relies on donations, fundraising, businesses and support from the local community to continue caring for animals across Halifax, Huddersfield, Bradford and surrounding areas.
Organisers hope Shibden Dog Day will bring the community together for a fun day out while helping raise much-needed funds for the next phase of the Really Big ReFURb project.
