By Joshua Robinson –
There is still time and space to go see both the workshop and concert of ‘Sonic Threads presents VASTRA‘ on the 25th September as a part of Cultures of Sound.
Both the workshop and concert take place on the 25th at the Heritage Quay, University of Huddersfield. The workshop is from 1 pm – 4 pm, with the concert taking place from 7 pm – 9 pm.
Both are free to attend, people just have to book their place online in advance.
Sonic Threads is a duo comprised of South Indian Carnatic vocals (Supriya Nagarajan) and an improvisatory harp (Lucy Nolan). For this performance, they are collaborating with guest artist Duncan Chapman on sounds/field recordings to explore musical motifs inspired by textiles from India including Calico and Kanchipuram.
Cultures of Sound is the School of Arts and Humanities’ (University of Huddersfield) contribution to Kirklees Year of Music, showcasing innovative collaborations and boundary-pushing experiments in sound undertaken by researchers and staff.
Each year the School hosts a public-facing festival of research activity on a different theme, in 2022 this was Cultures of Place and in 2024 will be Cultures of Creative Health.
