Thousands expected to take part in emotional overnight fundraiser supporting families across Kirklees

Thousands of people are expected to take to the streets of Huddersfield next summer as The Kirkwood prepares to host the return of its flagship fundraising event, The Kirkwood Starlight Walk 2026.

The annual event will take place on Saturday 4 July 2026 at the Accu Stadium in Huddersfield, bringing together supporters from across Kirklees and beyond for an evening dedicated to remembrance, celebration and community spirit.

Participants will set off at 10 pm, choosing from 3, 6 or 10-mile routes through the town in what organisers describe as a glowing sea of pink, all in aid of local people living with life-limiting illnesses.

A Night of Reflection and Community

At the heart of the Starlight Walk is the opportunity for participants to honour loved ones and reflect on personal memories.

For many, the event holds deep emotional significance, offering a chance to walk alongside others who share similar experiences.

As Huddersfield lights up throughout the evening, the event aims to create a powerful sense of togetherness, celebrating lives while raising vital funds for hospice care.

Whether taking part in memory of someone special, expressing gratitude for care received, or simply creating new memories with family and friends, every step helps support The Kirkwood’s work across the region.

Accessible Event for All Ages

Organisers say inclusivity remains a key priority, with routes suitable for a range of ages and abilities and affordable ticket prices designed to encourage widespread participation.

Ticket prices have been set at:

• Adults: £10
• Children: £8
• Dogs: Free (registration required)

Every participant will receive an official Starlight Walk t-shirt, contributing to the event’s now-iconic visual display across the town.

Vital Support for Hospice Care

Funds raised through the walk will help The Kirkwood continue providing specialist care and support to patients and families across Kirklees, both in people’s homes and on the hospice’s In-Patient Unit.

With hospices continuing to face significant funding pressures, organisers say community fundraising events such as the Starlight Walk have become increasingly important.

Head of Fundraising Anya Friis commented: “The Starlight Walk is one of those rare moments where the whole community comes together with a shared purpose.

“Every year, we’re moved by the stories people carry with them, the memories, the gratitude, the love.

“It’s a night filled with emotion, but also with incredible energy and hope.

The event continues to expand year after year with backing from a number of local partners, including Syngenta, Fox Engravers, Big Box Huddersfield, George Shaw Toilet Hire and Purple Dog First Aid.
