This December The Kirkwood is once again hosting their Light Up A Life services in Dewsbury and Huddersfield. The Kirkwood brings the community of Kirklees together in a moment of thought and reflection as people remember those who were closest to them.
As the Kirkwood tree lights up, individual candles are lit at night, where people can reminisce the hundreds of memories of loved ones as the services are read out.
Light Up A Life gives people the chance to stop for a moment and take a breath in what is usually their busy lives. Each year The Kirkwood invites people from across Kirklees and beyond to remember the special people in their lives.
Following a series of special events, a tree at the heart of The Kirkwood’s gardens in Dalton is lit and continues to shine brightly throughout the festive period in memory of all those who have been remembered. Light up a Life offers an opportunity to reflect on the good times spent with people’s loved ones and cherish their memories.

When attending last year’s event Richard Parkin was remembering his father Antony, who died from cancer. Richard believes the Light Up A Life services are vitally important, he said: “I believe it’s important that these services are put on. I have been able to come here, support The Kirkwood and remember my dad.”
