Welcome to The Womanist Voice Podcast. This episode explores what it means to be a child of the diaspora growing up in the UK.

Dr Sarah Hussain is joined by Shevonne Allison-Moses, who has worked as a Civil Service investigator for the past 11 years.

Shevonne was the youngest and first Black female to take on this role in West Yorkshire at the time she began.

She holds an undergraduate degree in Applied Criminology and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Management and Entrepreneurship.

Dr Hussain founded this podcast to create a safe space where experiences could be shared openly, without the pressure to accommodate defensive or ignorant responses that often aim to silence marginalised voices.

In many spaces, people from minority backgrounds feel compelled to suppress their emotions in order to avoid making others uncomfortable, frequently pretending not to notice microaggressions, knowing that challenging them risks being labelled as ‘difficult’.
